Distributor A24 tops the nation’s box office for the first time as Alex Garland’s Civil War pulls in an estimated $25.7m in its opening weekend.

It’s the biggest opening for an R-rated film this year. Civil War was the weekend’s only new release.

The concert film featuring BTSSUGA, Trafalgar Releasing’s Suga/Agust D Tour D-Day The Movie, grossed $2.2m in its first five days of release.

  2. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (Warner Bros.): $15.45m total; 3,847 screens; $4,016 average per screen (Week 3)
  3. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (Sony): $5.8m total; 3,350 screens; $1,731 average per screen (Week 4)
  4. Kung Fu Panda 4 (Universal): $5.5m total; 3,104 screens; $1,771 average per screen (Week 6)
  5. Dune: Part Two (Warner Bros.): $4.3m total; 3,037 screens; $1,799 average per screen (Week 7)
