MUSICARES UNVEILS HUMANS OF HIP HOP

MusiCares has launched Humans of Hip Hop, which provides resources to Black music professionals and the hip-hop community nationwide, initially focusing on Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles/Compton, New York, Oakland, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.

"Like so many other communities post-pandemic, the hip-hop community is in need of support," Rico Love, a Miami artist advocate and chair of the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective, said. "I've heard my community voice their needs. With MusiCares and Humans of Hip Hop, I'm excited to work directly with artists and change-makers to get people the services that will really make a difference in their lives.”

From August 2021-July 2022, a fifth of MusiCares' clients were Black music professionals. Humans of Hip Hop will help MusiCares learn from the hip-hop and Black music communities to ensure a more comprehensive understanding of their needs. The org will employ a full-time project lead to build inroads and maintain partnerships with this constituency.

"We're thankful to be part of Humans of Hip Hop and bring a voice to our community," artist advocates Salt-N-Pepa said in a joint statement. “With MusiCares, we're going to listen to leaders and creators and make sure our people are getting the help they need.”

Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares, added, ”Providing the resources and services needed will ensure that members of the community know their voices are being heard. I look forward to seeing the impact MusiCares, our sponsors and artist advocates will produce with Humans of Hip Hop."

Vivid Seats is the program's supporting partner. All sponsors will bolster programming, production and community relations. Vivid Seats CEO Stan Chia said, "We look forward to supporting the hip-hop community and ensuring access to the important programming and assistance offered through MusiCares."
