SHE HAD TO LEAD
LOS ANGELES

Congratulations to our old pal Shirley Halperin, who will assume the editor in chief mantle at Los Angeles Magazine effective 6/15.

Shirley has, of course, most recently served as executive editor, music, at Variety. This was the latest stop in a stellar career arc that has but one dubious detail: Her tenure with us.

Founded in 1961, Los Angeles was owned by Detroit-based Hour Media when L.A.-based Engine Vision Media (co-founded by attorneys Mark Geragos and Ben Meiselas) acquired it in late 2022, along with affiliated properties Orange Coast and Pasadena.

Engine President and Publisher Chris Gialanella counted himself "thrilled" by Halperin's hire (echoing the praise of Geragos and Meiselas), adding, "Her experience in music, lifestyle and entertainment and overall knowledge of Los Angeles is impeccable. She will help lead our team to great heights."

"It is a privilege to continue the rich editorial leadership of Los Angeles, a legacy title that has always found the perfect words to describe the beauty and whimsy of this blended metropolis we call home," reads a quote from Halperin. "And to everyone at HITS, let me say definitively that I will not help you get rezzies at hot new restaurants. Now stop texting me."
