MIDEM PLOTS RETURN

Midem will return to Cannes in 2023 with a banner on the Palais that reads “Sous une nouvelle direction.”

The City of Cannes is taking over Midem, purchased from RX France, Reed Midem’s parent company, when the event was canceled this year after a 55-year run.

“Maintaining this show in Cannes represents an economic challenge for local employment and attractiveness for the destination,” Cannes Mayor David Lisnard said in a statement quoted by MBW, further positing that the conference will be “reborn to adapt to changes in the recording industry.”

No date has been given as to when the event will be held. In years past it has bounced between January, when it can get quite frigid, and the balmy days of June after the film festival has left town.

For those of you who flunked ninth grade French, “Sous une nouvelle direction” means "under new management."
