TAG THEY'RE IT: SHAZAM'S BIGGEST MOVERS

A pair of prominent Grammy nominees and two older covers have thumbs a-buzzing, and enough people were sufficiently sober on New Year’s Eve to push the post-ball-drop song up the Shazam USA 100 chart.

Grammy contenders JP Saxe f/Julia Michaels’ “If the World Was Ending” (Arista) and Doja Cat’s “Say So” (Kemosabe/RCA) are among the week’s Top 5 greatest gainers, coming in behind IZ’s rendition of “Over the Rainbow.”

The Protomen’s cover of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” was recorded for the 2015 film The Cover Up, but a revival has drummed up support from Shazamers after a sync on Cobra Kai. And in case you didn’t make it to midnight on 12/31, the tune beamed on TV was a live version of The Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris.”

A New Year’s Day appearance on the BBC by Sophie Ellis-Bextor has lifted her “Crying at the Discotheque” to the top of the biggest movers on the U.K. Shazam 100. It tops two Christine and the Queens tracks and a Rolling Stones obscurity from 1974 that made its way into the BBC’s The Serpent.
