MUSIC WEEK
TO GO MONTHLY

British trade title Music Week will become a monthly, as its owner, Future Publishing, says its continued publication as a weekly is no longer economically viable. According to insiders, the coronavirus crisis is to blame.

Music Week's flagship event, The Music Week Awards, which were due to take place in May, couldn't go ahead this year, resulting in financial disaster.

Now, in a job advert for a digital editor spotted online, Future says it's looking for "other ways to serve our readership and build new sustainable revenue streams, both in the U.K. and internationally." For the time being, Future says it remains "committed to Music Week in print, but monthly." It says the planned move of the website musicweek.com, with a pay-walled facility, "will open up new opportunities for the brand to serve its audience and clients."

Founded in 1959, Music Week has gone through a number of owners in recent years—Future took over from NewBay Media in 2018, which took over from Intent Media in 2012. Prior to that, it was owned by UBM.
