U.K. CHARTS: KYLIE DANCES IN AT #1

Kylie Minogue’s DISCO (BMG) has scored the biggest opening week in the U.K. for an album in 2020, topping the Official Album chart with 55,000 combined sales. Over on singles, Ariana Grande is #1 for a third week.

DISCO is Minogue’s eighth Official Albums #1 and her biggest opening week since 2010’s Aphrodite. She sets a new Official Chart record, becoming the first female artist to score a #1 on the album chart in five consecutive decades—the 1980s, ’90s, ‘00s, ‘10s and ‘20s.

Little Mix finishes at #2 with their sixth album, Confetti (RCA), which is the most-streamed release of the week.

Another Official Chart record has been set this week by Dame Shirley Bassey, whose final album, I Owe It All to You (Decca), is new at #5. Bassey is thus the first female artist to claim a Top 40 album on the Official Albums Chart in seven consecutive decades.

Elsewhere, British rapper Dutchavelli scores a Top 10 debut, at #8, for his debut mixtape, Dutch From the 5th (Parlophone).

On the U.K.’s Official Singles chart, Grande’s “positions” (Island) holds onto #1 with more than 44,000 in sales, including 5.4m streams. In addition, her “POV” is this week’s highest new entry, at #22.

Little Mix lands two Top 40 singles: “Sweet Melody” flies nine places to a new peak of #3; the album’s title track is #23.

Miley Cyrus’ “Midnight Sky” (RCA) rises to its previous apex of #5, following the release of a new remix featuring Stevie Nicks, while Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” (Warner Records) rises three spots to #10.
