Those of us who include 2003’s Lost in Translation among their favorite films can't wait to see the upcoming On the Rocks, which reunites Sofia Coppola, who writes and directs, with Bill Murray, who stars, along with Rashida Jones, Marlon Wayans and Jenny Slate. Apple TV+ will be releasing the film in October, and the trailer has us salivating.
What often follows the announcement of a new Sofia Coppola project is the arrival of a new song from the band Phoenix, whose frontman, Thomas Mars, is Sofia’s longtime partner, and On the Rocks is no exception. “Identical”—which dropped on 8/19 and recalls the glory days of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix—is accompanied by a video directed by Sofia’s brother Roman, further keeping it in the family.
Phoenix have written the score for the film and compiled the soundtrack, with “Identical” functioning as the end-title theme. It marks the fifth collab with Sofia, starting with the use of “Too Young” in Lost in Translation.
