ICYMI: CARE FOR THE CULTURE

The Recording Academy L.A. Chapter's rap, R&B and reggae leadership collective recently hosted a Care For The Culture event. Providing a conversation with wellness experts, community thought leaders and industry innovators, the conversation addressed wellness, mental health and the needs of rap, R&B, and reggae genre music creators and professionals.

Panelists in the virtual discussion included CA State Sen. Holly J. Mitchell, Grammy-nominees and winners John Legend, Major., Ledisi, Melanie Fiona, Ivan Barias and KOSINE, singer/songwriter D Smoke, industry executives like LRVN’s Tunde Balogun and Priority Records/Capital Music Group GM WilliamFuzzyWest, among others.

Moderated by Chapter Executive Director’s Qiana Conley (L.A.) and Jeriel Johnson (Washington, D.C.), additional topics like adapting one's craft given the effects of the pandemic, the creator’s voice in the fight against racial injustice and how to promote care given the stress on the culture were also addressed.
