GRUBMAN SHIRE HACKED: UPDATE

UPDATE: With multiple reports (led by Page Six) stating that the ransomware demand from the hackers of entertainment law firm Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks has skyrocketed to $42m, insiders now say that mega-barrister Allen Grubman does not intend to pay. What's more, thanks in part to alleged threats from the extortionists to release material regarding President Trump, it's said that the FBI, Department of Justice and Secret Service are now scrutinizing the situation. Still, there's puzzlement as to the Trump part of the puzzle, since no one who knows Grubman is aware of any connection between him and the President.

Apparently the mystery hackers have proclaimed that if they release the "dirty laundry" they claim to have on Trump, he'll lose his supporters prior to the election. Um, have they met his base?

Multiple outlets have now reported that the venerable entertainment law firm of Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks was recently the subject of a hack that put hundreds of gigabytes of contracts, NDAs, contact info and other data in the hands of extortionists. The perpetrators have reportedly made demands, the fulfillment of which would allegedly keep them from making the info public in a series of well-publicized data dumps.

Sources close to the situation say that, however galling, such ransomware transactions are part of the new reality, and that hacks and other breaches have affected large companies in all sectors. Public figures like celebs and politicians, they note, are especially vulnerable.

A high-profile firm such as Grubman Shire is a logical target for digital infiltration. The firm represents such artists as Bruce Springsteen, U2, Madonna, Sir Elton John, Sting, Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, Mariah Carey,Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and many more, and has done deals with and for heavyweight music execs, marquee actors, champion athletes and execs in film, TV, tech and countless other fields.

Are negotiations under way to resolve the situation? Is the FBI or some other law-enforcement entity investigating? Are the losses from such data theft insurable? Stay tuned, and maybe change your password or something.
