DOYLE DEPARTS MTV

After more than 20 years as a guiding light at MTV, Amy Doyle has decided to leave ViacomCBS in the spring.

The beloved exec, whose efforts at MTV were consistent reminders that the “M” in MTV stands for music, is currently GM of MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo. ViacomCBS’ Entertainment and Youth Chief Chris McCarthy announced her departure today in a memo.

“During her long and successful tenure, she will leave a legacy of building incredible teams, championing talent and creating some of the most memorable moments in pop-culture history,” McCarthy wrote. “She is a huge champion of our brands, our social impact work and each of you—she has helped shape the heart and soul of the company and for that we thank her dearly.”

Doyle started at MTV in 1999 and was upped in 2001 to VP Music Programming where she led the network’s music initiatives. In a 2005 reshuffle, she was given the title of SVP of Music & Talent where she led. MTV’s music strategy as well as record label and artist relations.

She took over the VMAs as executive producer, guiding it to record-breaking years in the ratings, and came to lead all of MTV and VH1’s live programming and tentpole events such the MTVu Woodys awards shows.

As MTV’s EVP, Music & Talent, she launched a concert series with Britney Spears, promoted acts such as J. Cole and Young the Giant when they were young unknowns, and revived Unplugged with acts such as Lil Wayne and Miley Cyrus.

She brought MTV into two-screen world, developing its multi-platform strategy, which led to her becoming chief of the the music departments of MTV and VH1 when they were combined in 2014.

Beyoncé, Adele, Camila Cabello and P!nk were among the artists whose projects she shepherded; she was also co-chair of MTV’s Save the Music Foundation.

Hers are mighty big shoes to fill. She will be missed.
