THE WHO PLOT RETURN TO CINCY

The Who will return to the Cincinnati area for the first time since 11 people were killed at their 12/3/79 concert at Riverfront Coliseum.

Their first appearance in Cincinnati in 40 years is part of the extension of their Moving On! Tour with a symphony orchestra that will include a series of six shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

The Highland Heights, Ky., show was announced Tuesday night on Cincy TV station WCPO following the airing of the documentary The Who: The Night That Changed Rock. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey will make a donation from the concert to the P.E.M. Memorial, the organization founded to honor people who lost their lives at the 1979 concert; it provides college scholarships for students at Finneytown High School.

“It is right to recognize that the friends and families of those fans we lost that fateful night have not forgotten them," Daltrey told WCPO. "For many years we have been in contact and supported the Finneytown High School memorial foundation in memory of the three students they lost. After seeing the good work the scholarships provided by the foundation achieve, we have decided that a concert to raise funds for them will allow these to continue and create something positive in their memory way into the future."

The Who’s new album WHO comes out Friday.
