IS MOMENTUM BUILDING FOR MUSICAL RESPONSE TO GUN VIOLENCE?

The new track from Interscope's Lana Del Rey, "Looking for America," may be the tip of the iceberg as artists process the impact of multiple mass shootings across the U.S. Proceeds from the gossamer single (co-crafted with writer/producer Jack Antonoff) will go to charities benefiting victims of the recent attacks in Gilroy, Calif., El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. The track just entered the top 20 at iTunes.

It's clear that a great many artists are feeling angry and traumatized and want to respond; as we reported previously, momentum may be building for some kind of big concert to galvanize support for gun regulation and political change. Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons and Kacey Musgraves have so far been among the most outspoken artists in the wake of this wave of violence. Who else might get involved?

In June, Madonna dropped the disturbing video for "God Control," which may be too upsetting for some viewers but is an impassioned plea for gun control and gun safety.
