MEDIABASE 2018 AIRPLAY TOTALS ARE HERE

Mediabase has tallied their year-end radio airplay charts, dated from the period of November 12, 2017-November 10, 2018, with some interesting distinctions between the dominant artists in the streaming worlds versus who excelled at various formats within terrestrial. Coming in as the most played artist at T40 in 2018 was Warner Bros.’ Dua Lipa, with “New Rules.” She’s followed by Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” (Atlantic), Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey’s “The Middle” (Columbia Nash/Interscope), and Syco/Epic’s Camila Cabello rounding out the Top 5 with two of her biggest singles this year, “Havana” and “Never Be The Same.” Meanwhile Halsey (“Bad at Love” via Astralwerks/Capitol), NF (“Let You Down” via NF Real Music/Caroline), Maroon 5 (“Girls Like You” via 222/Interscope), Bazzi (“Mine” via iamcosmic/Atlantic) and Khalid X Normani (“Love Lies” via Right Hand/Keep Cool/RCA) all clear the Top 10 most played.

At Rhythm, it should be no surprise at all that Drake holds down the #1 and #2 positions with “God’s Plan” and “Nice For What” respectively (YM/CM/Republic), but what is quite notable is that Kendrick Lamar & Zacari’s “LOVE” from Lamar’s 2017 album DAMN., clocks in at #4 (TDE/Aftermath/Interscope). That single was remarkably, first released in April of 2017—goes to demonstrate the power callout research has in maintaining rotations on familiar, most-loved songs at FM Radio. Post Malone rounds out the Top 5 most played with his two smashes “Psycho” and “rockstar.” The Top 10 is rounded out by some of the best collaborations of the year: G-Eazy, A$AP Rocky & Cardi B (“No Limit” via RCA), Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin (“I Like It” via Atlantic) The Weekend & Kendrick Lamar (“Pray For Me” via Interscope-Republic), Miguel & Travis Scott (“Sky Walker via ByStorm/RCA) and Khalid X Normani (“Love Lies” via Right Hand/Keep Cool/Interscope).

And at Modern Rock, RED’s Lovelytheband has the most played song with “Broken.” Foster The People’s “Sit Next To Me” (Columbia) is at #2, while Imagine Dragons’ “Whatever It Takes” (Interscope) rounds out the Top 3. And in another show of the power of callout, Portugal. The Man’s “Feel It Still”—a song that was first released in March of 2017, is at #4 on the 2018 most played chart. RCA’s Walk The Moon rounds out the Top 5 with “One Foot.”

At Urban Radio, Ella Mai sits at #1 with her beautiful midtempo R&B banger “Boo’d Up” (10 Summers/Interscope) with Drake’s “God’s Plan” (YMCMB/Republic) at #2 and Kendrick Lamar & Zacari’s “LOVE” at #3 (TDE/Aftermath/Interscope). Drake is at #4 with “Nice For What” and the Top 5 is completed with G-Eazy, A$AP Rocky & Cardi B’s “No Limit” (RCA).

Mediabase also broke out label chart share, with Gary Spangler’s Republic winning the #1 label overall with 16.3%, as well as being the #1 label at T40 and Rhythm. Brenda Romano’s Interscope sits at #2 overall with 14.8% and #1 at the Alternative and Hot AC formats, plus are the #2 label at T40 and the #1 label at Urban, led by Larry Khan. Joe Riccitelli’s RCA (10.4%) and Greg Marella’s Capitol (8.2%) finish the Top 5 rank for label chart share.
