AOKI IS A MAK DADDY WITH W/C DEAL

EDM artist/DJ/producer/entrepreneur Steve Aoki has inked a global partnership with Warner/Chappell for his Dim Mak Publishing. The Grammy-nominated Aoki, himself already a W/C writer, credits the House of Platt as having been “important to my development as a songwriter” and thus a natural admin partner for the three-year-old pubco, which boasts works from dance and electronic notables such as Autoerotique, Garmiani, Henry Fong, Max Styler, Ookay, QUIX, Shaun Frank, Stooki Sound and Viceroy.

The Dim Mak record label, first launched as a punk-rock force out of Aoki’s UC Santa Barbara dorm in 1996 before pivoting to the electronic side, has released records from The Chainsmokers, The Kills, Bloc Party, Pretty Girls Make Graves and hundreds of other projects. The Dim Mak umbrella also includes an event company and clothing/accessories brand; we eagerly await the energy drink.

This year, Forbes ranked Aoki #5 among the world’s top-paid DJs, listing his earnings as nearly $30m.
