YMCMB/Republic’s Drake, who graced one cover of our most recent print edition, scored a resounding, million-plus #1 debut with his eagerly awaited Views, which went wide at retail after a week-long iTunes exclusive. The Canadian artist breathes the rarefied air at a peak only a handful of megastars share. But appearing on the cover of our sorry mag will probably make him want to hold his nose.
Island’s breakout singer/songwriter Mike Posner, our other cover model, is a fine representative for our New & Developing Artists issue, having scored a gigantic hit at radio and retail with “I Took a Pill in Ibiza.” Seeing his picture on the cover of our unfortunate publication, however, will likely be a bitter pill to swallow. Cllick the images for a larger view.
Team Apple, meanwhile, provides our Contents Page VIPs. Thanks in large part to Jimmy Iovine, Robert Kondrk and Trent Reznor, Apple Music was a bright spot in the tech giant's recent financial numbers (which caused some stock jitters), as the streaming service notched 13 million subscribers. Meanwhile, Apple's exclusive gave Drake the first all-digital million-plus chart bow from a single service provider. Now an overhaul of the service—and a robust new ad campaign—are said to be in the offing. But the Apple Music trio probably wish they could swipe their iPhones to delete this Contents shout-out.
