The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

The third installment in Marvel's Captain America franchise, Captain America: Civil War (Disney), earned the fifth largest opening of all time with $182m at the domestic box office.

Captain America turned out to be the only debut in the Top 25. The Jungle Book, another Disney flick, illustrated its impressive stamina, pulling in another $22m at #2 in its fourth week out. That said, Disney broke the record of fastest studio to cross the domestic $1 billion mark, which was previously held by Universal.

1. Captain America: Civil War (Disney) $182m 4,226/$43,017 avg. (debut)
2. The Jungle Book (Disney) $22m 4,144/$5,278 avg. (week 4)
3. Mother's Day (Open Road) $9m 3,141/$2,867 avg. (week 2)
4. The Huntsman: Winter's War (Universal) $4m 2,901/$1,234 avg. (week 3)
5. Keanu (Warner Bros.) $3m 2,681/$1,149 avg. (week 2)

Meanwhile, in limited release, Fox Searchlight's A Bigger Splash was the big winner in terms of per theater average. The lusty film—which stars Tilda Swinton as a rock star on vacation, who finds herself caught between an old and new flame—raked in $134k from just five theaters.
