Warner Bros.' Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opened to a monstrous first weekend at the box office, pulling in $170m from America alone over Easter weekend. Worldwide, it grossed a whopping $421m.
This marks the biggest opening in Warner Bros. film history and the biggest March opening weekend overall; the latter record was previously held by The Hunger Games and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 before that. It's also the biggest Easter opening and the fourth-biggest global opening ever. The scathing reviews were clearly a non-factor in this instance.
1. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Warner Bros.) $170m 4,242/$40,099 avg. (debut)
2. Zootopia (Disney) $23m 3,670/$6,305 avg. (week 4)
3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (Universal) $18m 3,133/$5,784 avg. (debut)
4. Miracles From Heaven (Sony/Columbia) $9.5m 3,047/$3,118 avg. (week 2)
5. The Divergent Series: Allegiant (Lionsgate) $9.5m 3,740/$2,540 avg. (week 2)
