Robbie Williams to UMG

A PUMPED-UP DEAL: In related news, a new album from international star (but also-ran in the U.S.) Robbie Williams will be released next autumn next year, but not on EMI. Williams’ new project, which follows his successful reunion with the rest of boy band Take That, and will be issued worldwide by UMG, MusicWeek reports. Here are the official comments of the principals. Williams: “I'm really thrilled to be joining the Universal family at what I think is the most exciting time in my career." Lucian Grainge: "What a thrill this announcement is. To be working with Robbie and his team, and to have the opportunity to support this incredible stage of his career, makes life so exciting." Universal Music U.K. chief David Joseph: “Having had the chance to listen to the music I’ve no doubt that Robbie is currently at his most creatively inspired. We are about to witness something very special.” Williams’ manager, Tim Clark of ie:music: “This great new deal puts Robbie Williams firmly in control of his own destiny, but with the most muscular of partners." Williams is recording the album in his own studio in L.A. (10/21a)
