RISK/REWARD: Doug Morris talked with N.Y. Post media reporter Claire Atkinson about the new hit Broadway show Motown: The Musical, for which he’s the sole investor. Some salient quotes: “[Steve Jobs] told me, ‘Follow your passion—if it’s something you want, use your own money.’” Morris figured he’d be “taking a bath” on the investment given the fickle nature of Broadway audiences, and when it failed to get the expected love from the Tony Awards, “I was disappointed it didn’t get top musical,” he acknowledged. As for why he took such a huge financial risk, the vibrant 75-year-old joked, “They were planning on retiring me. I had to have something to do.” (5/3a)
