iTunes Top 10s--first look

iTUNES EARLY SNAPSHOT: The album chart is rocking this morning, with Marvel/Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack (ooba-chucka!) still on top, followed by the debuting Spoon (Loma Vista), Godsmack (Republic) and U.K.-based youngsters The Vamps (Island). Spoon has had a ton of visibility leading up to today’s release: They Want My Soul was streaming at iTunes the last seven days and it got a four-star lead review in the new Rolling Stone, the band did a featured set at Lollapalooza and The New York Times Magazine gave them an in-depth feature. Meanwhile, the singles chart has been unusually fluid, with Christian dude Lecrae vaulting to #1, only to be vaulted over himself by Nicki Minaj, and an instant-grat offering from Alex & Sierra (album set for 10/7 on Columbia) has also made the leaderboard. But just as revealing is the fact that, amid all this movement, Sam Smith’s album and single remain rock-solid—as if we needed any more proof that this guy is connecting widely and deeply. We'll give you an update once the West Coast gets into the act. (8/5a)
