CROSSOVER
THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

A few superstar artists have blessed us with new music over the last seven days; I first want to talk about Future. The Epic rapper dropped Future on 2/17 and it debuted at #1. Then his HNDRXX dropped on Friday, and it is now the #1 selling album. This is the first time I can remember an artist dropping albums in consecutive weeks that went #1.

Epic’s Todd Glassman Sujit Kundu have their hands full, as they now have “Draco,” which they impacted last week, as well as “Selfish” f/Rihanna, which they will now impact this week. This track is top 10 at iTunes. They are going at Top 40 as well this week. This is a mass appeal record, and they already have WPWR in Los Angeles, HOT97 in New York and WJMN in Boston to lead the way this week. “Draco” was up 120 spins, and is at #59 after just one week. Sujit also has Travis Scott’s “Goosebumps” (Grand Hustle), which leaps five slots to #6, up 675 spins. The goal is #1. DJ Khaled f/Beyonce and Jay Z’s “Shining” (We The Best) explodes #30-15 this week, up 1,120 spins. He was the most added AND biggest increased record for two weeks in a row. Rick Ross f/Ty Dolla $ign’s “I Think She Like Me” is still developing, and was up 50 spins. And if this is not enough, they are impacting Mariah Carey f/YG’s “I Don’t” as well as Yo Gotti’s “Blah Blah” this week.

Another major artist to drop a track was Columbia’s Calvin Harris. “Slide” features Frank Ocean and Migos, two acts the audience loves. It debuted inside the Top 5 of iTunes, and is now #15. Top 40 is really loving this track as well. Ayelet Schiffman and James White also have The Chainsmokers’ “Paris” (Disruptor), which is up 140 spins and comes in at #20. They also dropped a new track with Coldplay last week. Russ’ “Losin’ Control” has another very solid week, gaining 250 spins. He moves “27-24 this week. They are impacting LeCrae’s “Blessings” this coming week.

Republic’s Gary Spangler, Davey Dee and Stef Cole have The Weeknd’s “Party Monster” (XO) looking to make the jump to #1 in the next few weeks. It was up 760 spins, and is moving to power at most every station. Ariana Grande f/Future’s “Everyday” is up 210 spins, and just misses the Top 15 this week. ZAYN/Taylor Swift’s “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” (UStudios/RCA) sees a gain of 60 spins, and holds at #21. Marian Hill’s “Down” (Photo Finish) takes a nice jump up the chart, going #26-22. They are up 335 spins, as the sales and Shazam numbers continue to impress. Post Malone’s “Congratulations” is up 190 spins, and enters the top 30. Julia Michaels’ “Issues” is just getting started, and was up 125 spins. She is a week or two away from debuting.

Def Jam’s Rick Sackheim and Noah Sheer still have Big Sean’s “Bounce Back” (G.O.O.D.) at #2 and growing. He was up 330 spins. His other track, “Moves,” is at #26, after gaining 190 spins. Jeremih f/Chris Brown’s “I Think of You” just misses debuting this week at #41. He was up 270 spins, and will have a healthy debut this coming week. Bibi Bourelly’s “Ballin” holds at #50 this week. 2 Chainz f/Gucci Mane & Quavo’s “Good Drank” sees a 120-spin increase, which lands him at #55 this week.

Capitol’s Greg Marella and Dixie Tipton look to debut Katy Perry’s “Chained to the Rhythm” this coming week. It was up 120 spins, and comes in at #47. It is rolling at top 40.

Inca and Lori G at RCA make big moves with Chris Brown f/Usher and Gucci Mane’s “Party.” They jump to #5 from #9 this week, gaining 550 spins. Khalid’s “Location” moves to #17, up 250 spins. The record just continues to grow and develop. G-Eazy’s “Some Kind Of Drug” is at #23.

Glassnote’s Childish Gambino “Redbone” is a very reactive record. It Shazams wherever it gets played. It is currently #12 at Urban AC, was up 255 spins at Urban, and is at #45 at Rhythm. This is a left of center record, but it is real.
